Campaign Update

Dear supporters:

We did it!

Thanks to a lot of effort and tremendous support from people like you, we emerged from the Democratic primary as the overwhelming winners. One of the challenges was to get Rob’s name into the public eye as a write-in candidate, an almost overwhelming task with another name on the ballot. Winning was a remarkable achievement for a write-in candidate.

Although this is a big victory, it is only a start. As we approach the general election, we will highlight both our shared vision for the future, combined with our practical, problem-solving approach to getting things done. As your senators we will:

  • Work to overhaul our decades old school financing/property tax system. It is broken and resulted in double digit increases for too many home and business owners this year. We need to fix it.
  • Earn the respect of our senate colleagues and, thus, ensure that our southwest corner of Vermont is front and center in the legislature.
  • Work to develop more housing that is affordable to the average Vermonter.
  • Support our myriad of public and independent schools, especially their teachers and staff who work so hard to give every child a chance at a successful life, regardless of their family’s economic status.
  • Work to provide our communities with the tools they need, like grants and technical support, to meet the emerging challenges of the twenty-first century..
  • Help Vermont prepare for the impacts of a rapidly changing climate, which threatens to overwhelm us if we do not make hard choices now.
  • Combat efforts to interfere with any person’s right to bodily autonomy.
  • Champion the preservation of democracy and turn back the anti-democratic cult of Trumpism. We cannot allow this kind of extremism to gain a foothold in the legislature or the Vermont psyche.

Both of us were born and raised in Vermont; Rob in Bennington and Seth in Manchester. In our own ways, we have devoted our lives to this oft-forgotten part of Vermont. We will bring that devotion to Montpelier and will fight for you every day.

We need help to continue spreading our message. We need people to put up yard signs on their lawns. We need people who know their small towns to tell us when and where we need to show up. We need people to introduce us to their friends and neighbors. In short, we need your help for this campaign to be successful. Please be in touch and please pass this letter onto your friends and neighbors. For those seeing this letter through a friend, email us to be added to our contact list.

With the primary behind us, we need to raise money for the general election and beyond. If you can, donate here.

For all of that, we write mostly because we want to thank all of you who donated, talked to your family and friends, put up a lawn sign and who voted for the Bongartz-Plunkett ticket in the primary. So, THANK YOU!

Warmly,

Seth Bongartz
